Sambrani Benzoin Cups

Sambrani is benzoin resin, and in South Indian homes it is burned at dusk and carried room to room. These are the pressed cup form: resin worked with charcoal powder into a shallow cone that lights from a match and burns on its own, so no separate charcoal disc is needed. The smoke is thick, sweet and vanillic, and a single cup scents a room for around twenty minutes. Twelve cups to a box with a paper liner. Burn on a heatproof plate or in a sambrani holder, in a ventilated room, away from curtains.

Apply a small amount to the pulse points — wrist, neck or behind the ear. Attars are undiluted, so one pass of the roll-on is enough; the scent opens over the first twenty minutes and settles close to the skin. For burners and incense, use in a ventilated room on a heatproof surface and never leave anything lit unattended.

External use only. Not a medicine.

Materials

Benzoin resin, charcoal powder, natural binder. Card box, paper liner.

Care

Keep the box dry and closed. Damp cups will not take a light cleanly.
