An akhand diya is the lamp kept burning without a break: through a night of prayer, a festival, or the days of a ceremony. This one is built for that job. A 250 ml brass reservoir holds enough oil for up to about 48 hours on a low flame, depending on the oil and the wick. A clear glass chimney keeps the flame steady against a fan or an open window, and a threaded knob on the side raises and lowers the wick without lifting the glass. The crown and the base are turned with a fluted band. Stands about 22 cm tall. Supplied empty, without oil.
Apply a small amount to the pulse points — wrist, neck or behind the ear. Attars are undiluted, so one pass of the roll-on is enough; the scent opens over the first twenty minutes and settles close to the skin. For burners and incense, use in a ventilated room on a heatproof surface and never leave anything lit unattended.
External use only. Not a medicine.
Materials
Brass reservoir, base and fittings; clear glass chimney. Supplied empty.
Care
Let the lamp cool fully before lifting the chimney. Wash the glass in warm soapy water. Clean the brass with tamarind or a brass polish and dry it at once.
