Rose Attar (Gulab)

Pressed in Kannauj from rose petals picked before the heat of the day and carried to the still within hours. The petals go into a copper deg with water over a wood fire; the vapour travels through a bamboo pipe into a receiver held in a cooling tank, where it settles onto a base of sandalwood oil. The receiver returns to the still with each new batch, and the cycle repeats until the oil carries the flower fully. There is no alcohol at any stage and none in the bottle. Supplied in a glass roll-on with a screw cap. External use only.

Apply a small amount to the pulse points — wrist, neck or behind the ear. Attars are undiluted, so one pass of the roll-on is enough; the scent opens over the first twenty minutes and settles close to the skin. For burners and incense, use in a ventilated room on a heatproof surface and never leave anything lit unattended.

Care

Keep the cap closed and store away from direct sun. The oil thickens in cold weather and clears again in the hand.
