Baked earth distilled into sandalwood. The smell of the first rain on dry ground.
Mitti is made from earth rather than a plant. Discs of clay from the riverbank are baked in a kiln, then loaded into the copper deg and distilled; the vapour carries the mineral note of hot dry ground and condenses onto sandalwood oil. It is the closest thing in perfumery to the smell of the first rain, and it is made only in Kannauj, only in the weeks before the monsoon. Nothing is added and no alcohol is used. Supplied in a glass roll-on with a screw cap. External use only.
Apply a small amount to the pulse points — wrist, neck or behind the ear. Attars are undiluted, so one pass of the roll-on is enough; the scent opens over the first twenty minutes and settles close to the skin. For burners and incense, use in a ventilated room on a heatproof surface and never leave anything lit unattended.
External use only. Not a medicine.
Baked clay distillate on a sandalwood oil base. Glass bottle, aluminium cap.
Keep away from direct sun. Wipe the neck before closing so the cap seats cleanly.
